Hidcote is our bestselling lavender variety, beloved for its striking deep purple blooms and wonderfully low-maintenance character. This hardy classic attracts bees and butterflies whilst offering versatility for drying, culinary use, and craft projects—perfect for creating fragrant hedgerows and garden borders. Hardy and ready to plant straight into the ground or container. Current size: 10–15cm from base of rootball to top of foliage. Intensely fragrant. Reaches approximately 40cm at maturity. PLANTING Plant in well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. Mix in grit or sharp sand to improve drainage, especially in heavier soils—lavender genuinely thrives in poor, sandy conditions. Position in full sun for best results. Water regularly for the first three weeks to establish strong root growth with a good soak. CARE Water sparingly once established—lavender dislikes being overwatered. Prune after flowering with a firm cut, but avoid cutting into old wood as this reduces next year's blooms. Never remove green shoots, as this can damage the plant. Perfectly hardy year-round in the garden. Sold as a culinary herb.

Is lavender right for your garden?
Lavender thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, reflecting its Mediterranean origins. It struggles in clay or waterlogged ground, so if your garden holds a lot of moisture, another plant may suit you better.
Lavender care guide
Lavender care guide
Lavender is wonderfully low-maintenance once established. Choose a sunny, well-drained spot, water regularly for the first few weeks after planting, then ease off as it settles in. A light prune after flowering keeps it compact and full. That's all it needs to thrive.
