Keeping it happy
Give it the sunniest spot you have and soil that drains quickly. If your ground is heavy clay, mix in a few handfuls of grit or sharp sand first; lavender likes it lean, and neutral to chalky soil suits it fine.
Soak it once a week for roughly the first three weeks while the roots settle. After that, put the hosepipe away and only water in a long, dry spell: soggy roots are a bigger threat than drought. Once the flowers fade, clip it back into a tidy mound. Stop where there are still green leaves, because bare brown stems rarely sprout again.
Lavandins are hardy too, so it can stay in the ground all year. Sold as a culinary herb, so you can use the flowers in the kitchen.

Will it like my garden?
Will it like my garden?
Lavender thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, reflecting its Mediterranean origins. It struggles in clay or waterlogged ground, so if your garden holds a lot of moisture, another plant may suit you better.
Care, the short version
Care, the short version
Lavender is wonderfully low-maintenance once established. Choose a sunny, well-drained spot, water regularly for the first few weeks after planting, then ease off as it settles in. A light prune after flowering keeps it compact and full. That's all it needs to thrive.
