The Sun & Scent Bundle - 12 x 9cm lavender plants

Holiday vibes, no passport needed. Twelve sun-loving lavenders in purple, white and lilac.

In the box

• 4 × Grosso (lavandin): tall purple spikes and our most fragrant variety
• 4 × Edelweiss (lavandin): white spikes that open a little later
• 4 × Melissa Lilac (English): dark buds opening to pale mauve

Best for

• Gravel gardens and south-facing borders
• Raised beds and large pots in a sun trap
• A three-colour drift that hums with bees

The lowdown

• Grosso and Edelweiss grow to about 80cm; Melissa Lilac is usually about 60cm, up to around 80cm
• Space them 3 to 4 per metre and mix the colours, or plant in bold drifts
• Very little watering once established

Keeping them happy

Give them the sunniest spot you have and soil that drains quickly. If your ground is heavy clay, mix in a few handfuls of grthem or sharp sand first; lavender likes them lean, and neutral to chalky soil suits them fine.

Soak them once a week for roughly the first three weeks while the roots settle. After that, put the hosepipe away and only water in a long, dry spell: soggy roots are a bigger threat than drought. Once the flowers fade, clip them back into tidy mounds. Stop where there are still green leaves, because bare brown stems rarely sprout again.
